About the Council of Guides

The Council of Guides supports Maya's mission and vision.

Overview of the Council of Guides

We started the Council in 2019, in the same month the company was founded. This was our first initiative to ensure from the get-go that we wouldn't be building Maya blindly. We knew that the only way to truly serve this community is to work with this community, hearing the wisdom and receiving the critique at every step. This philosophy is applied to our feature selections, product designs, pricing plans, and more or less every other aspect of the business.

We are fortunate to have been immersed in the psychedelic community for many years, and have built Maya in response to the challenges and wishes we heard from this space. Now, as we refine the toolset and do our best to adapt software to the many intangible aspects of psychedelic work, it is more important than ever that we're listening.

Who is on the Council?

We began with two founding members of the Council, who will remain unnamed. One, a licensed therapist working with psilocybin and cannabis for both individual therapy and group ceremony. The other, a clinical social worker and psychotherapist facilitating ketamine therapy.

Our goal is to extend the Council to encompass all manner of practitioners, from ancient wisdom teachers to clinical therapists and between. The more textured and varied the voices of this group, the more chance we have of empowering the entire psychedelic health space to succeed.

What are the expectations of being on the Council?

We acknowledge the value of your time and do our best to keep touch points efficient. That said, we are eager to learn as much as we can from you, and request a minimum of an hour of conversation every two months. This frequency allows us to keep you up-to-date on the progress of Maya's platform, as well as to make sure our priorities and features stay aligned with the needs you see as being most important. Our request for all members of the Council are that you:

  • Be available to schedule a 1 hour call every two months.
  • Show interested and engaged in reviewing our demos, designs, feature plans, and other work.
  • Offer your ideas or requests at all times (even between meetings).
  • Be active in making introductions to others in your network, to whom you feel Maya is relevant.
  • Accept that not all of your suggestions can be prioritized, but that they are all important.
  • Maintain confidentiality with regards to our product & business strategy.

What are the requirements to be invited?

At least four of the following requirements must be met:

  • You have provided a psychedelic journey for another, as the primary facilitator in a structured setting.
  • You have held space for a participant who experienced a 'challenging' journey.
  • You have participated in a guided (therapeutic or ceremonial) psychedelic journey yourself.
  • You have experienced a 'challenging' journey and are comfortable sharing this experience.
  • You believe that learning from aggregated data can help surface the safest and most effective practices.

Is there any cost associated?

Not at all.

How do I join the Council?

If you are reading this page and feel that your experience, perspective, and devotion to this vision would make you a great fit for the Council, we want to hear from you. As we intend to keep regular contact with all members, there is a limit to the rate at which we can grow the group, and hope you'll understand if we determine this isn't the right time to extend an invitation.

If you feel called to the group, based on everything above, please contact us here and indicate in the message that you would like to discuss the 'Council of Guides'.

Thank you!
